We’re pleased to share that not only did Brent set a new regional bench press record with his first lift, but he went on to break the new record a further two times! The record bench press for his age and weight category was 80kg, set back in 2019. In Brent’s three lifts he achieved 81kg, followed by 85kg and 90kg.
It was a fantastic performance for a competition debut, especially when you consider that powerlifting wasn’t something he had considered before joining Body Mentors back in 2021.
Seeing Brent’s incredible progress with strength training, we decided to check the powerlifting records for his age and weight category. Quickly realising the potential he had, we pitched the idea to him – and with some gentle persuasion, he was keen to give it a try.
Brent added, “Initially I was unsure about the competition when it was first suggested as it wasn’t something that I had considered or attempted before. However with Will and Johns encouragement I decided to go for it. Once I had started my 12 week training program and could see my progress, I became more focused and committed.”
Ahead of the competition we helped Brent undertake a 12 week training program designed specifically to get him in the best shape for the competition, both physically and mentally.
“Throughout my training we discussed what the judges would be looking for and what to expect on the day. This really helped me to became more focused and committed”.
There’s every chance that this won’t be the last record we see from Brent, “I’m continuing my program with a future competition in mind, even at my age. I’m hooked!”.
Jon added, “For everyone that knows Brent at the gym, I’m sure you’ll be as delighted as we were with his results – he’s such a positive guy and brightens everyone’s day!”
